This week’s runic spirit is Ken.
This spirit is interesting because the Anglo Saxon rune poem uses the word torch to describe it whilst both the Icelandic and Norwegian rune poems choose the word ulcer.
To understand the base nature of this spirit you need to take the two descriptions, define the characteristics of each, and then combine the parts to see the whole.
• Is used to find your way in the dark
• Is used to light a fire
• IS a sore on the skin or a mucous membrane
• It disintegrates tissues
• Forms pus in the process
• Is painful
• Can cause death
How this helps you to understand what Ken is communicating when it appears in a rune cast:
By combining the characteristics, you can see that the appearance of Ken is a bittersweet event.
Something enlightening will come into being. What that something is depends on both the question asked and the surrounding runes (if any). However, for this something to manifest, something else must die a painful death.
